I thought Kitchen Confidential was a decent read because I could draw some parallels between the way kitchens ran back in the 80s/90s and now. Stress, easy girls, drugs, free good, etc. Less coke, more Norcos and Adderall, but a lot of the "culture" was the same.

By that point, I was already in my 20s and cooking was pretty much just what I "did." I can't imagine reading that book and thinking, "Yeah, this is what I want to go do now."
