Going on a diet next Monday. Should I go low-cal, or pick some other kind of diet?

Also, where's the easiest place for me to get low calorie foods that I can monitor, since I have limited ability to cook for myself?

You got insurance? The best place to ask would be at your clinic, preferably with a doctor that you see regularly and who knows you somewhat.

Other than that, it's both eating less than you are burning off, and eating foods that give you enough so you are not too tired to burn calories.

You also have to eat more than one or two large meals a day so that your body will get out of starvation mode and keep holding onto fat.

That's typically what happens when you live with people. Welcome to the world where you have to do things like a functioning adult. Once again: your excuses boil down to laziness. If this is the mindset you attack a diet with, I can guarantee you won't last a week.
If this is still too much for you to understand, then literally just eat less. Congratulations, weight loss.
>1 lb/week isn't enough.
1lb/week is healthy weight loss. Depending on how fat you are, it could potentially be more than 1lb/week due to water weight, and your oversized body working in overdrive performing normal tasks without you shoveling food into it every 10 minutes. If you aren't looking at this from with long-term perspective, you won't be successful.

what? All oils are fats. And whether or not they provide nutrition depends on their source, not whether or not they are an "oil" or a "fat". I need to cleanse from the alcohol for a bit, but I don't know if I can quit it forever. I've been working with a therapist who actually thinks I shouldn't, as it is my main social outlet. My hope is to quit for a while and then give myself sustainable goals with the booze.

If I'm not drinking every day, my normal diet will be fine. The diet is literally to get the maximum benefit of the weight loss while away from alcohol. Even if I fail and start to drink again, at least I'll be 20+ lbs lighter doing it.

>Ah, the good ol "we absolutely have to drink to socialize" friends. I always lose weight when I'm living abroad, and far from them. I always gain if I go back and hang out with them.

Yeah, unfortunately I'm probably the guy who pushes them the most. I have a lot of friend groups, and I cycle around to most of the drinking events. Everyone has a great time doing that. I struggle to find much that's fun to do that doesn't involve drinking. It's almost exclusively some kind of exercise. There's the occasional dinner or bowling, but they're always something that also is appropriate for drinking.

I wish I didn't LIKE drinking, it would make life so much easier. Some people feel pressured into doing it, and begrudgingly go along with it, but I never feel hungover and such.

Any diet that isn’t low calorie will not work, it’s physically impossible. You can eat whatever you want to so that you can fit into whichever group of mouth breathers you like, diets all work because they restrict calories.
Good news! They all work at the same speed too, so it doesn’t even matter which meme you base your identity around.
Now surely everyone is retarded and will say words like “insulin” “carbs” “protein” “fat” “keto” “burning” “starvation” etc. they’re all meaningless for weight loss. Completely meaningless. If you didn’t know any of those words existed, and just knew about calories, you would lose weight exactly as they do if you ate the same number of calories. Regardless of how hard they stuck to their cult’s guidelines.

Yes, when you have an attitude of removing carbs from your diet you just lose so much extra calories that didn't satiate you and that you really didn't need. Its easier when go zero carbs because then you wont have to question "what if I just take a little bit" and get tempted each time to add more sweetness because what does it hurt.

low carb, 5:2 and IF (1-2 meals in 8 h window, 16h fasting)
calorie counting only needs to be done very roughly, be careful with eggs though and make sure you are on at least a minus 1000kcal deficit every eating day, that means consuming 1000-1500kcal a day, your weekly defecit should be minus 10000 kcal which would mean burning slightly more than a kilo a week, probably more as fatasses consume more energy than the 2000 average because of your physical size assumed that you do not lay on the bed all day.

also if you really feel like eating a carb heavy meal once in a while then set a given day every one or two weeks but do not exceed the 2000 kcal mark, you need to at least break even on your calorie consumption/burning ratio evem on those days.
To give yourself a certain day can be a curse for some but a good thing for others, better to have control in advance over which day you will enjoy a couple of slices of pizza or a hamburger or your moms home cooked meal/eating with friends than falling for the temptation on a day you are supposed to stick to your diet.
Also no sweets whatsoever, no sugar can be consumed other than tiny amounts in some almost unavoidable products.
When you are on a low carb diet your blood sugar will be much more stable so the cravings for sweets and snacks you feel now will go away which is an amazing feeling, treat yourself to a diet soda once in a while if you want but do not drink it every day.
Also no alcohol.

I realized afterwards that I didn't have to eat 3 meals a day if I wasn't hungry, like before this happened I had this weird headspace that I had to eat 3 times a day and that's just the way things were, but if you think about it the human body didn't evolve with 3 meals a day, 10,000 years ago a human would have been lucky to get even 1 meal a day, it makes no sense that it would be unhealthy for humans to have to eat 3 meals a day, we would have evolved that weakness away a long ass time ago.

When I realized this I began skipping breakfast, after a while I began to not even feel hungry for lunch and the weight just started dropping, nowadays I only eat one meal day and maybe some small snacks.
