Does anyone here ever buy candy from these machines anymore?

I got ten candy machines for free and am thinking of setting them up in a few businesses in town.

>> No.11815789

I’d toss a quarter into those machines on the way out of the grocery store, but I’m self conscious and don’t want people to look at me as a manchild

>> No.11815796

>>11815789
I’d put them in places with waiting areas like salons and auto shops. I feel like there is a less of stigma of buying from the candy machine in places like that. I already have a children’s haircut location secured.

Literally just children use them because parents know it will cost a mere 0.25$ to stop their whining.

I've never understood why businesses didn't set up their own candy machines. From everything I've heard it's basically passive income, where you just go around once a month collecting the money and refilling the candy, and the hardest part is finding locations that let you set them up without competition. Literally any business could allocate the resources to do this for themselves.

>> No.11815929

>>11815880
They don't do it because it's a distraction from their core business.

Suppose I run a hardware store. Sure, I could set up a vending machine there, and I'd probably make some money doing it. But I'd make *more* money if I took that same effort and investment in my core business, hardware, instead.

...and likewise, the people who make the most money via vending are those who make it their serious business. They get better deals on the machines because they buy in bulk. Likewise for the stuff the machines sell, etc.

That's retarded. A candy machine would be a one time purchase as opposed to the constant transactions needed to maintain the main business. Candy is cheap as fuck too and you could even refill it with stale candy if you wanted to be jewish about it

>> No.11815970

>>11815956
some business owners are just retarded and cheap and just see things like that as another expense. My old boss was cheap as fuck, still processed credit cards manually with an imprinted in 2016, wouldn’t even buy garbage bags.

>> No.11816004

>>11815956
No, it's realistic.

A candy machine is a one-time purchase, sure. But the time taken to research the best candy machine to get would be far better spent, for example, finding out which nail distributor has the lowest shipping costs to my store.

Candy is certainly not a one-time expense. I have to keep buying it over and over again. What's worse is that the sellers I normally do business with don't sell candy, so now I have to set up new accounts just to buy candy to fill the machine. It's also a huge pain in the ass to keep track of sales for accounting purposes.

t. business owner

>>11815970
your boss sounds like a huge idiot. a lot of people don't realize that by "saving money" by refusing to pay for things like a modern CC machine they actually end up costing themselves more money in other ways, such as wasted employee time. And often times that's far worse.

I worked at an ace in the mid-90's. It was my first job at 15. The manager, (a total milf, BTW) ran a huge candy and soda racket out of the store. She had the owner's permission to sell them, and she put a vending machine right by the front door, and sold candy and snacks at the register. She was a coupounaholic, so she bought her inventory for nearly nothing from various stores in town. She also used the store's Sam's Club card and bought stuff there. She made crazy bank.

Looking back, I'm pretty sure she shagged contractors on her lunch break on a regular basis. We also had this 80-year old who worked in the garden department. Smoked 3 packs a day. Grouchy as fuck. Every few months some tatted-up trucker or biker type dude would show up looking for her (yes, her), and would hand over a handle of Jack, which she'd keep in her locker and take swigs from from time to time.
