Square plates are 27% heavier for the same size. It's simply physics.

>>11817208
yea, but how would you serve it? like a diamond with a corner pointing at the patron (diamond)? or with a flat edge facing the patron (square)?

because like a square the flat edges would have to line up perfectly with the table edge as well as the cutlery on either side. there's too much room for error which would trigegr any OCD that any patron might have.
and would the salt and pepper shakers also need to be square? what about the glasses for the bevereges. fuck! this is madness!

of course they take up less space. when you put them next to another stack of plates there is no wasted gaps ergo you can use a smaller square plate to get the same eating area as a larger circle.

Square shape focuses stress on the corners, so you will eventually end up eating from chipped and sharp plate.
Unless it's made from plastic of course, but who the hell wants to use plastic plates?

I just got some free square plates from a giveaway pile at a rec center, and I have been thinking the same thing after trying square plates, they make food look great, they have wider surface to scoop the food up, and they are easier to load into the dishwasher.

They're too wide to rotate in the microwave.

if you have stacks of round plates next to each other in a cupboard the areas in the corners are wasted. you could have the same surface area in a square plate with a width that is smaller than the diameter of the circle and no wasted cupboard space since they line up perfectly with each other.

>>11817549
when you pull out the rack in the dishwasher and then abruptly stop the plates continue to move. sometimes the spray makes the smaller plates pivot and block of parts of the bigger plates.

>> No.11817823

>>11817719
It's only wasted if you could utilize the space saved by either having plates that fit perfectly in the cabinet or putting glasses in or something. You could fill your cabinet to the vertical brim with plates if you really wanted to but most people don't. Flat plates are also better space wise. Stop being autistic about this.

Round plates allow for more pleasant plating. More natural, less obtuse shapes. Food looks ugly on them unless you work in a way that's very rigid and precise.

Circle area is bigger than square area, so you can put more in a circle. Furthermore, if you want to argue that the square takes less space, you need it to be INSIDE the circle. Lastly, you can use the corner space for storage.
