No you don't. How are carbs the only source of electrolytes? If you do keto right you still eat plenty of leafy vegetables, avocados, nuts, fatty fish, cheese, and other things that all together provide you with enough electrolytes. I've been doing keto for a few years on and off now and have never had trouble with electrolyte deficiency.

If you're worried it's alright to take supplements as well. Even people on healthy diets should take supplements to ensure they always get the right amount of vitamins and minerals in their body.

>>11777236
Read up on autophagy and fasting. Also it's a good way to lose weight for the obese, or even those who want to lose smaller amounts as long as they don't fast for too long. Good for diabetics, improves insulin resistance. I think prolonged fasting should only really be done for people who are obese and want to lose weight, however short-term fasting can be beneficial for everyone.

>> No.11777368

>>11777344
Well yes, it's not unsurvivable. But you need large fat stores on your body to survive it. This is why I asked for the starting and final weight of the person. Someone who's only about 20lbs overweight for example would probably not survive a fast for 6 months. The person who fasted for a year weighed in at 456lbs initially, that's beyond morbidly obese.

I agree that people should be careful and ideally work with a doctor when doing a prolonged fast. But keep in mind that to be diagnosed with anorexia, the individual's BMI must already be in the underweight range. Fasting alone isn't what causes heart failure in anorexics. It's fasting when you are already malnourished, weak, and underweight to begin with. If you ease yourself into a fast and have no existing health issues, you should be fine.

There are different types of fasts out there. Water fasting just means that you only drink water, and don't consume anything else (except maybe some supplements).

There are for example juice fasts, where people drink fresh vegetable/fruit juices but don't eat anything. There's broth fasting, where people drink bone broth but don't consume any solids. (Bone broth contains fat, gelatin and usually a lot of sodium)

There's also intermittent fasting which means you eat one or two meals a day in a short period of time and don't eat anything else for the rest of the day.

Americans are deathly afraid of discomfort. They want a pill to fix all of their problems and don't want to change their lifestyle. They can't imagine going a day without eating, their day is already ruined and they throw a bitchfit if it's slightly too cold or if it rains for 10 minutes out of the day. It's also funny that if you go into a hospital, most people care more about the pain than they do about their longevity. I say this as a fellow American. It's disgusting to look at these people.

I just have one question for you fasting people? Doesnt irlt affect your disposition to carry on with your daily routines, work, school, etc? Dojt you feel tired or fatigued all the time when youre fasting? Can you workout or do other physical activities during the fasting period?

I don't know where the fuck you live but around here (new England) weather is generally taken as "shit happens".
>They want a pill to fix all of their problems and don't want to change their lifestyle.
This I'll give you but I doubt that it is just America.

Not only that, it's bad for your health. I was fasting for like a week and my hair started to fall out at an accelerated rate. Don't do it anons, it's not a good idea. Just have a healthy diet

and a week seems a bit short for you to go through telogen effluvium, either way if your hair 'fell out' instead of regressing at the front, it means it'll grow back.

No. Your energy goes up substantially after you get into ketosis. If you're doing keto already then the first day you feel normal and by the second day you feel almost hyperactive. If you're starting fasting from a standard american style diet then there may be a low-energy transition period As your body switches from carbs to ketones and triglycerides, the more insulin resistant you are the tougher the transition. But on a fast you generally feel hyperactive. If you think about it, if skipping a few meals made us weak then this is an evolutionary disadvantage that would have reduced our ability to survive a missed antelope or drought, and would have been eliminated through natural selection. When fasting your body produces adrenaline and growth hormones, and the total amount of available energy in your bloodstream goes way up (2-3x non-fasting), because you still have a fair amount of glucose from gluconeogenesis, plus huge amounts of ketones and triglycerides to make use of that adrenaline. I had to take sleeping aids during my fast because I was so wired and energetic. But any antelope i saw would have been in mortal peril.

Fasting is for losing weight or for controlling a condition (or killing a tapeworm). There’s a thread called /fast/ on /fit/ if you want to ncouragement but you can fast for long periods of time if you’re over 10%ish body fat and take electrolyte supplements. There’s a mix called snake juice in the thread or just google it to find a recipe. Working out when you’re obese isn’t a good idea. Try losing the weight then getting fit.

It's also good for clearing out the nerve damage that eventually turns into alzheimers, killing cells that are in a pre-cancerous state before they start metastasizing, restoring insulin sensitivity and beta cell function thereby reversing type 2 diabetes. Fasting triggers a whole bunch of "spring cleaning" mechanisms that are suppressed when nutrition is abundant.
And if you have a tapeworm, fasting will kill it. Probably more important before the discovery of fire than it is today, but it is what it is.

Pretty sure it is. Exercise makes you hungry, which is fine if you are normal and healthy, but telling a low-self-control fatass to do something that will burn only a few hundred kcal but will also make it hungry is a recipe for disaster.

You shouldn't do it for very long if you're very lean, ca 5% body fat for men and about 13% for women. This is less than most athletes. Most people, even "healthy" people are pretty tubby tbqh and could easily stand not eating for a week or two. You lose about 1/2 to 2/3 of fat per day on a water fast if you're moderately active.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the ideal way to lose weight is a combo of cutting back on food portions and exercise, right? That's what I did, went from over 200 lbs to around 170. I still ate all the foods I wanted just not as much in one go.

Follow-up study on contestants from the show "the biggest loser", from the same season for consistency (season 2 iirc), done 6 yearly later. Its pretty sobering reading, and resulted in a class action lawsuit against the shows producers and doctors, which caused the show to be cancelled despite its popularity. That combination of "eat less and move more" damaged their metabolisms badly and permanently. The producers and doctor knew this would happen ahead of time and included addictive controlled drugs in the contestants daily "vitamins" to keep this from affecting the contestants during filming..
