Japan is a more expensive trip.

Compare airplane tickets and hotel tickets, in mid-May, with Hong Kong vs Japan.

Then take into consideration that walking around Tokyo with anything less than $500 for a week is considered a "bad idea" by most travel experts.

Taiwan has much better Jap food than HK and is still a relative bargain. Unfortunately there are definitely language barrier issues, even in Taipei. But I had my favorite “Japanese” meal of all time in Taipei, and I’ve been through Japan (which also was amazing food).

Actual Honkie here. Ichiran is overhyped and their quality has slipped drastically since years ago. Comparing what they serve today from what they used to have when they first opened, you might as well be eating instant ramen at home. Only merit I'll give it is that it's literally the only ramen place easily accessible that is open 24/7.

>>11757108
Because it IS frozen. Or dried, probably from a huge batch they make every once a while. How else are they supposed to serve customers that walk in at 3am?

>>11757196
Not really. Sure it might taste good, but for the price you might as well go sit down at a ramen place and order something fresh.

LA Ramen is amazing, no other place in the country does ramen like LA.

There is decent ramen in Downtown Oakland, but all the ramen in San Francisco or San Jose is all very substandard. I was sort of shocked, considering SF and SJ have large Japanese populations.

They're all in Torrance after leaving the ghettoening that is gardena: "As of 2014, the nearby city ofTorranceholds the highest Japanese-American population in the 48 contiguous states.[23]" from gardena Wikipedia. There's even less after Toyota and nissan moved their offices to Texas and Tennessee. Ramen picks that I've tried and are good are santouka, ramen yamadaya, ramen shack, hakata ramen and the shinsengumi to go. A lot of these are cash only There's also a Coco Curry ichibanya in Torrance which is absolutely worth the drive. There's also a few good restaurants in I believe, west LA and not as scary as downtown LA.
