What Americans mistake for "capitalism" is really corporate welfare for monoculture companies like Dow, ADM, Cargill, Smithfield, Perdue, and The Company Formerly Known As Monsanto (they were so reviled they literally had to disguise themselves as a German company best known for creating gas chamber chemicals for the Nazis)

Polyculture, which is only physically possible in coastal states such as California and New York, produces real food. It costs more because it's not subsidized by corporate welfare

Corporate welfare to megafarms incentivizes them to massively overproduce certain crops like corn and soybeans, leading to those foodstuffs being extremely cheap in the areas they are farmed and flooding the market.
