Realistically what are the risks of eating unpeeled carrots that may have soil ingrained in them?

That's not soil, dipshit. If you wash it there shouldn't be any dirt on it. The brown is discoloring. That's literally it. If you bit into a piece of sand, trust me, you know know it. Now fuck off you stupid faggot.

Carrots have extremely thin skins which means they're much more absorbent of chemicals used in industrial farming. Probably not that big of a deal really but I think that's why people peel them

You won't die, but soil is contaminated with pesticides that are not good for you long term. That is why they recommend you wash your veggies thoroughly.

That's not soil in your pic, those are spots like the "eyes" on a potato, where the roots branch out. So, no risk, but (if you're leaving your carrots unpeeled for health reasons) know that your body benefits very little from eating that drab form of fiber, and carrots are tastier peeled.

carrots have high amount of pesticides so always peel them.
>"Some fruits and vegetables can have nine different pesticides in a single serving," said Jane Houlihan, the senior vice president for research at the Environmental Working Group.

>Peaches top the "dirty dozen" list because they require a lot of pesticides to grow, according to the Environmental Working Group.

>The rest of the dirty dozen include:
Apples
Bell peppers
Celery
Cherries
Nectarines
Strawberries
Kale
Lettuce
Imported grapes
Carrots
Pears

I scrub them with pic related. Focus on the ugly spots that disturb you, the rest of it is fine with a wash.
Dont peel too deep ever, a carrots best flavor is right on the surface. You know what the core part is like. Flavor is on the skin.

>chemicals used in industrial farming. Probably not that big of a deal really but I think that's why people peel them
That might be why neurotic people peel them, but if you're that worried just save yourself a step and buy organic. The real reason why people peel vegetables like carrots and potatoes goes back long before industrialized farming. It is a class thing. The King/Queen would NEVER be served any vegetable with a peel on it. People tend to ape the manners of those above them socioeconomically in an effort to make themselves seem higher status than they are. In the case of peeling vegetables it became such a thing that a lot of people would eating unpeeled as beneath them. And being served them as an insult. This is kind of an antique thing, and many chefs are now serving baby veggies with the skin on. But the prejudice against unpeeled veggies persists in our culture.

I just can't stand the sight of unpeeIed carrots. Not when most of them look delicious underneath.

I use a speed peeler on carrots and turn them into ribbons. Get 1kg of carrots for 40p(about $0.60)

Sometimes slice 3 or 4 carrots into ribbons and just eat them from a bowl with some oil and vinegar.

I peel any store bought carrot because they're all grown by monoculturalist megacorporations which saturate the soil with chemicals, even the organics from chain groceries like walmart and kroger. However, I just scrub my homegrown carrots with a course brush because they were grown in a living, sustainable soil w/o harmful chemicals.

>> No.11701657

>>11701643
Why do you think that is a sound plan? Surely you realize that whatever evil chemicals might be in the soil are perfectly capable of penetrating past the skin of the carrot, right? I mean, it's a fucking root. Its purpose is to absorb things from the ground. Do you really think that peeling it somehow gets rid of all the "chemicals"?

>> No.11701732

>>11700184
Well that soil may or may not be fecal matter from the previous user's asshole. It's important to get to know your carrot vendor and buy only "never used" carrots. As the human fecal matter, there's all kinds of nasties carried in it including noro virus, salmonella and of course, AIDS. Do not be tempted to peel the carrot, as the sharp ridges created by the peeler can tear your asshole and cause bleeding. Not you have a bleeding asshole with an AIDS-infested carrot in it.

Do you know the story behind the "carrots are good for the eyes" myth?
It's probably common knowledge by now but I think it's still interesting.
During World War 2 the allied forces developed radar small enough to mount on aircraft. This naturally improved their efficiency at detecting and killing airborne enemies immensely.
In order to keep it a secret that they had this technology, the created a propaganda campaign in the UK telling their own civilian population to eat carrots so they could have good eyesight, especially at night, like their pilots.
Lots of interesting stories like that about espionage, counterespionage, and general deceit during that war.
