Got this popcorn variety pack for Christmas. I've only tried two kinds so far, but it's really neat how the different popcorns actually do taste noticeably and identifiably different. Are there any other fancy kinds of popcorn I should try if I want to get into it, or is this really it?

I have no further information to share, but I would be very much obliged if you might be inclined to impart unto this forum your thoughts on the varieties which you have tried hitherto.

Only tried purple and red so far. Purple has a nice sweetness to it, and is a bit more firm than most theater popcorn. Red is meatier and has a fuller, more popcorny taste, if that makes sense. I've been trying them plain, but enjoying them enough that I ordered some of the Amish Country brand popcorn salt to try with it.

Thank you very much, that's most informative. I'm quite a big fan of some popcorn, but my local store only sells one kind, what looks to me to be a standard 'yellow' variety.
I do hope that you will continue to keep us updated, I am keen to hear your thoughts on further varieties.

If you’re looking for some truly gourmet pop’, I recommend O. Redenbacher.

Is there any 'accepted' way to try out different popcorn varieties? I'm thinking that the 'standard' way might be plain, or perhaps with a litte salt to draw the flavour out?

This was Williams Sonoma, but it's waaaay overpriced there. It's 40 bucks for 12 4 ounce bags. Or you can get a "build a box" from Amish Country directly and get 16 1 pound bags of varieties you pick for 42 bucks shipped.

I'm doing them plain because I've also never done this before, but I'd definitely recommend some salt and will be using it going forward. The problem is that with, say, the purple variety, I'm not sure if I would have noticed the sweetness as much if it had salt, so I'd definitely recommend trying a handful plain and then adding the salt after to taste.

Thanks for the amish link. I will say that you'd probably want to store it in the freezer because over time popcorn kept in the pantry will beecome less effective at popping.

Thanks, I'll definitely keep that in mind.

It's interesting because even though America produces so much, the vast majority of it is for food and fuel. I've likely eaten one, maybe two varieties of corn my entire life up until this point and it turns out there are at least a dozen human edible varieties.

If you live in Pensylvania or Ohio, you likely live <1 hour from an Amish bulk goods store. They usually have a variety of popcorns to choose from as well all kinds of weird stuff to try, and usually a super affordable deli counter. I live less than 10 minutes from 2 different ones and get all kinds of groceries from them, mostly the aforementioned deli meats, but also in season produce and bulk yeast

I dont understand why normal people continue to give financial support to this Amish cult of religious crazies.
If any other CULT was selling popcorn, cheese, and knick knacks, would you buy from them too? Its time to drop support for these most retarded of people.

Yes. Cults make the best products. See: John Moses Browning the mormon designing the greatest firearms in history.
