Nice. Never heard of it but reading up on it now. Trying to fill my library up with different cook books.

>> No.11606859

I've never had a go-to cookbook, just a dozen things that are interesting and give ideas that are a little different (I do go to Julia Child for basic French shit, though). For normal stuff I just look up a few recipes online and then usually make some combination of them based on my own judgement.

The Best Recipe from Cook's Illustrated.
This is the best shit ever, from back in the days when they autistically tested everything and the company wasn't taken over by corporate fags and roasties.
I've used probably a hundred recipes from this book and they've all been fantastic.

I like themed cookbooks, so I bounce between the ones for Hannibal, Game of Thrones, and Binging with Babish.

This sounds pretty good. Is it scratch type or is their a lot of pick up "name brand". lol i had one one that essentially told me to bake a cake i must first go buy a box of cake mix...lol wtf

Yeah, I get that and would also like to get some solid go-to books just to have around. I've been trying to write down my own recipes (i.e. things I cooked based on other recipes), but I'm really lazy. I'm also BoH, so coming up with recipes, tasting and tweaking things is something I do almost every day.

Pepin is the fucking man. I argue a better ...maybe Jacque Torres. Those two are god tier bakers

I hate writing. I mean I'll scribble adjustments in the books i have now. I have the king arthur cook book, America's test kitchen and better homes new cook book. Of the three i have to say America's test kitchen takes cooking, king arthur is decent for breads& dough but the better homes cookbook has good tips and tricks I've liked learning.

I just look through a bunch of stuff, try concepts that seem reasonable, and write down what I want
then I store the book

If I see Hungry Hungry Caterpillar next time I go to Goodwill I'm going to add it to that stack (that's like 1/5th of my cookbook collection, and probably 1% of all the books I own - most sitting in boxes in storage). The Stars Down to Earth is probably Adorno's best work on popular culture (which isn't really known for being stellar or informed, especially compared to his lectures on Kant, which are amazing).

I'll give it a read soon I suppose. Thanks.
I don't have any cookbooks but I feel that I owe a pic. My bookshelves are not very representative these days since it's so much easier to get stuff on the Kindle.

I was going to warn you that it's still Adorno, but based on your pic it seems like you probably know what you're getting into. Then again, it's analyzing a bunch of American newspaper horoscopes, so if you don't have horoscopes in the paper wherever you're from it might seem a little weird and "do Americans really" tier right off the bat.
