My town has a better 24-hour diner option so I rarely go to Waffle House, but it's not a bad option for late night breakfast. There's sometimes a free show included, depending on what kind of crowd is there.

For a place that claims to be southern food there is a shocking lack of country fried steak and chicken and waffles.

It sucks. And it's unbelievably greasy.

Where i unfortunately live WH is filled to the brim with White Trailer Trash and Feral Negros.

The one by my house (real house not a trailer) accepts EBT/SNAP/Food Stamps, so it gets the cream of the trash crop.

Cops are there nightly, usually after 10pm, fights, shootings, a parking lot rape about once a month.

Place is filthy disgusting, layer of greasy film covers everything. They have a sharps container in the bathroom stalls.

Skip the WH and head to Cracker Barrel, it's still white trash, but it's more double wide than regular trailer. Customer base is older, no beatings or shooting, usually no Negros, except in the kitchen.

When Florence blew through my area, they were literally the only restaurant open in town. I went there a couple of times in the early morning hours just to have some coffee and escape the hideous boredom of my home.

People in the South have a love hate relationship with Awful House, because on the one hand the food is usually pretty mediocre, but on the other hand, they're cheap and always open.

Look for one that's clean and the exterior appears newly built. You'll find one like that if you look, they pop up like mushrooms since the franchise fees are so low. If it looks run down on the outside, the inside is ten times as bad. If you don't order a waffle, at least get the hash browns.

The eponymous waffle is alright. Not something I find myself craving or anything. Their grits are meh, but I don't think they're instant or anything. Hash browns on a griddle are always great, and hard to fuck up, and so is frying an egg and bacon. You can get a decent breakfast for $4+tip if you don't mind the setting. I was never brave enough to order steak there, but I've been told it's not terrible.
