Why don't CDC, FDA, or USDA actually discuss the root cause of frequent E. coli-related romaine lettuce recalls?

Penny-pinching farm owners won't even install porta-potties for their (usually illegal migrants from South America) farm workers to use, so they have to shit in the fields. When it rains, water washes over the human shit then into the vegetables. Human-specific E. coli can only end up in food from contact with relatively fresh human shit. Since lettuces grow right on the ground, they're most vulnerable to this kind of contamination.

Interesting and completely reasonable.

Another possible source is illegal "fertilization" using human waste sold by waste management firms to unscrupulous farmers who then use it on food crops.

Didn't they already disprove this by testing the strains of infected lettuce? And that the vast majority of contamination came from animal sources?

And this was before the last recall, from the prepacked lettuce incident?

>> No.11508210

>>11508120
Unlikely since the recall affects conventionally grown monoculture lettuce which means the soil is simply an anchor and means of transmitting petrochemical synthetic fertilizers to the plant. Any number of modes of contamination could be at work but most likely is occuring in storage or transport perhaps with fouled misting pipes to keep it from wilting since it's so widespread. Migrants defecating would not cause such a widespread outbreak, but OSHA should crack down and get proper bathrooms available anyway but good luck with that under le orange to whom the notion of common human decency is as foreign as the notion of truth.

You obviously have no idea about farming

Porto potties are an industry standard, sometimes the workers have shit hygene but they dont poop in the field.

With high moisture on foliage in a mass scale and hand harvesting I am surprised there arent more outbreaks. You just hear about it because everyone makes a huge deal when a dozen people get sick

Mexican decides to poop in the field to increase productivity and fertilize the soil while at it. Wipe with his hand. No water so cleans his hands as best he can by wiping it on his shirt. Hands still full of poop so he contaminates everything he touches.

Nope. It's the fault of the unregulated mega-agricorporations who fail to provide proper hygiene facilities and the access to them for the workers. Thx Trump!
