What’s /ck/ sipping on?
Just tried CBS and KBS back to back on tap, and I gotta say, that maple makes an enormous amount of difference. What a beer.

Dank Wood and Barrel Runner really just didnt sit right with me. I have yet to try a barrel aged IPA that I enjoyed. Dank Wood just felt like a worse version of Devil Dancer, and BR just smelled too strongly of paint thinner with weak hop flavor. To be honest, if they hadn't pulled a saving throw with CBS, I was gonna give the next Founders BA release a miss. What were they thinking with those two?

That sucks man. I do envy the selection you have in the States though; our beer/spirits laws severely limits what's available to what the government owned company feels it should stock. Also means that sometimes you'll find a great beer that is flat-out unavailable for years at a time because the company decided none of their stores should stock it: happened to me with Tank 7 (back now), La Chouffre, Founders Breakfast Stout seems to be gone again now, etc. Allegedly we had Dogfish Head beers at one point but I have no evidence of that and am sadder for it.

To expand on this: the vertical epic was 12 beers made once a year on the month and day that corresponded to the series. For example 08 was bottled on the 8th day of August in 2008. They were all Belgian strong ales that were intended to be cellard and all opened at once in 2012 with a wide variety of adjuncts. 12.12.12 had pretty traditional Christmas ale ingredients. Go figure. https://www.stonebrewing.com/beer/stone-vertical-epic-ales#ageGatePassed

09 was a chocolate orange inspired dark strong and 08 was a hoppy golden strong

How long do you need to let Trappist/Abbey style beers age to get a noticeable aging effect? That is, assuming them aging is a real thing and not a meme.
I've got some I've had sitting in a drawer since I bought them early October and I'm wondering if it's worth leaving them until Christmas, or if you only get the effect of aging if you've left them long enough for future archaelogists to marvel at.

You should probably be looking into why aging works for these beers and then adjust age to taste.

Alternatively you could stock up now and pull a bottle out every 6 months or something for next 10 years. You were gonna wait for bottles to age anyway.
But a lot of places recommend 6 months to a year as a starting point.

CBS > KBS and anyone who disagree is an idiot.

Today I've drank a bottle of Chimay Grande Réserve barrel aged 2018, aged on oak whiskey barrels. It was not as good as last years rum barrel aged, just slightly better than the ordinary kind. I also drank two beers from Founders, the Better Half one was really good, a perfect blend of sweetness, darkness and fullness. The other one was meh. Also downed 3 local shit lagers just to keep the buzz up during the day.
