Sticky rice and overcooked eggs are personal preferences. The overall meal is influenced by Hawaii. Similar to a carne asada taco without salsa and overcooked meat. Still mexican cuisine.

Laulau was always my favorite, though I also really like squid luau. The taro leaves give a pretty distinct flavor which you might not think much of if you didn't grow up with, but for me it's what screams Hawaii.

Neat. I know they were the first location to offer local menu items, but I still think that their saimin is one of the best things McDonald's makes (not that it compares to saimin from a real saimin shop, but for McD's it's pretty good.

>>11415166
You should be able to find banana leaves in the freezer section at pretty much any Asian grocery store, but it's really not the same as ti leaves, which are kind of a big deal in traditional Hawaiian culture (that's what the "grass" skirts are made from).

Honestly this would've been the last place I would've checked to find them. Thanks for the heads up. I think I might be able to find them, but I'd have to travel quite a bit to get them.

Meant to also mention huli huli chicken, but that's not something you're really going to find on the mainland. If you're in Hawaii and see smoke coming across the road it's either a huli huli chicken stand or somebody burning garbage. I also love ahi poke, but haven't seen anything really authentic on the mainland, despite it being a huge fad food right now.
