Does anyone have any experiene getting an education at CIA? I'm a lost millennial, and this is a path I'm willing to explore.

I did JWU, which is basically the next best thing after CIA, and it was a terrible life decision. You also need two years restaurant experience to even apply, which is a good policy, because most people quickly realize that they hate working in the food industry, and for good reason.

don't do it. it's not worth it. very few people are cut out for this industry, and a small percentage of those people are the ones that actually enjoy it. just get a job as a prep cook in a restaurant if you really want to try it, don't drop ~$50,000 on an education for a job you will come to hate.

go in to engineering, like CAD.

I don't remember the specifics, but I'm going to give a confident "no". Every restaurant I've worked in, when someone submitted an application that listed fast food as relevant work experience the chef would basically say the anon had no kitchen experience. Fast food is like working on an assembly line in a big factory, while working the line is more of a craft, where there are a ton of variables that you need to figure out yourself, plus you need to actually know how to cook.

Every post on this topic I have ever heard was a resounding "no, dont do it". YOu can learn just asmuch or more by actually working your way up in a kitchen, the "connections2 and work experience the culinary institute allegedly provides you with are mostly bullshit. Many chefs actively hate graduates from those instituates because so many are know-it-alls without ever having worked a day ina real kitchen
