/ck/ was right again. Bought a couple of these badboys at the store and ate one last night with plain triscuits. Fucking delicious. Did not go well with Sierra Nevada pale ale however. I also picked up a can of smoked oysters. Suggestions on the best way to eat these?

Try smoked sprats if you can find them.

Polar brand kippers are better than King O. King O wins on deenz but you have to try the Polar brand kippers if you can find them.
We eat them on delicious crusty toast with cream cheese. Add a little hot sauce if you like.

We love to go to international grocery stores and get weird canned fish items. Right now there's kippers and mackerel in Cyrillic tins, smoked sprats, queen scallops in tomato sauce, skipjack in olive oil, and cuttlefish in ink sauce. Ate the Polar kippers yesterday and the cuttlefish in "American sauce" the day before.

What's /ck/'s favorite canned fish of all time?

agreed. I like sardines in olive oil fine I suppose, but kipper snacks are the shit. I could eat them anytime. I got a stack of those at the dollar store of all places and they were still good with some hot sauce. They were this brand. I've seen people eating these on jewtube like it's some kind of dare or something lol. Sardines are way more "daring" than smoked herring.

Same way as the kipper snacks. A little squeeze of lemon is good with the excess oil.
What brand did you get? Some of them are shit compared to others.

I love me some king oscar deenz or any brand deenz really
last night I decided to go for something different so instead I bought two cans of pic related. I had only had canned anchovies with capers before and they were pretty delicious
now the king oscar shit I had yesterday? both cans had a shitton of fucking bones in them, every fillet just packed to the brim with tiny, unchewable fishbones. unlike sardine spines and shit which are perfectly brittle and basically just melt in your mouth those things were fucking tough and there were too fucking many of them in just a tiny little fillet. I couldn't eat that shit
what the fuck? are anchovies supposed to be like that?

Depends on what it is. Never tabasco though.
Louisiana Hot Sauce or Texas Pete most of the time for me. Tapatio if it's a hispanic dish.
Creamy crab salad with Texas Pete is awesome.

I love canned smoked oysters. Way better than deenz imo. Eat them on crackers with hot sauce and lemon juice. Sometimes I straight up put them on a small slice of onion with hot sauce and Worcestershire. If you want to work for it then de-vein a jalapeno and stuff it with a couple spinach leaves, oysters, and feta cheese and apply whatever sauce you like. I used a jamacian pickapeppa sauce and it was the best.

honestly the brined white anchovies are what you want for just eating out of the can. what you bought is more suitable for putting on pizza and cooking (the bones become softer after cooking). I sometimes even add one crushed anchovy to my red pasta sauce for that extra bit of deliciousness that can't really be obtained from anywhere else.

King Oscar lemon & pepper kippers beat all deenz, but the chicken o the sea in oil are still the best I know. I have tried at least 11 brands of deenz. Polar is the cheapest and you get what you pay for, but CotS is only 20¢ more a can.

BB is second best after CotS and they're also 10¢ more than CotS. That's entirely my preference though because CotS seems to be cooked just a little bit longer than BB, making it easier to take out the bone with just a fork.

Lucky Dog brand hot sauce. Pic related
The red label - sweet and garlicky roasted red pepper - fantastic on everything. Spicier than the name implies. The purple label has figs in it and is smoky sweet and lightly spicy, perfect for breakfast foods. We also recently tried the alderwood-smoked-serrano one (new ltd ed) and it's really unique, definitely can pick out the alderwood smoke flavor, which is strangely bitter. The brown label (chipotle mustard) makes a great dipping sauce for fried mushrooms/other fried foods if you mix it 1:1 with mayo.
