I've never drank whiskey before, so I decided to pick up some Honey Jack
What am I in for, /ck/?
Don't worry I'm not stupid enough to chill it

>> No.11152130

Jack isn't that great and the honey variant is far too sweet. Next time grab some knob

they keep it at room temperature for tasting at the distillery, if you chill it the flavor gets subdued.
Which is fine if you don't like the taste, but why drink it anyway if that's the case?

>> No.11152280

I mean, you can chill it. Whiskey is best the way you like to drink it, regardless of what you put in it or how you drink it. It isn't like standard jack is particularly nuanced anyways.

I never tried honey jack, but I'll give you my advice for all whiskeys/ bourbons. Put it on ice and sip it. It's okay to water down your alcohol slightly. Not beer, of course.

I love that whisky burn when I'm taking shots, but drinking it on ice allowed me to truly appreciate the flavor.

That stuff is good cold, shots. Big chug of honey, no burn.

That is a whiskey liqueur.

If you've never had whiskey before then try a standard entry level one, not some flavored stuff.
Jim Beam white label, Evan Williams black label, Old Forester 86, Wild Turkey 81, Dewar's 12, Glenfiddich 12, Glenlivet 12, Jameson, Bushmill's, Crown Royal, Johnnie Walker Black,or actual Jack Daniel's

But you're stupid enough to buy it. 750ml Bulleit or Wild Turkey 101 both cost the same as Honey Jack at my local store and are miles better.
And no, don't chill it. You can do an ice cube if you're a pussy. A splash of water improves most whiskey quite a bit, better flavor and smoother. Or just neat if you want to think you're more original.

great entry level whiskey for me:
jameson
bushmils
tullamore

a little bit pricier:
monkey shoulder
black label jw

top tier midcard-higher level:
everything from old pulteney, absolutely love it
highland park 12
connemara if you like something with more earthy peaty flavor but not going hardcore on smoke and challenge in taste
rebreast

bourbons, if it is your cup of tea:
nothing fancy and good are bulleit straight, four rouses single barrel, buffalo trace

if you wanna be all fancy about bourbon, go with angels envy. But for me, I don't see much of a change. Bourbon on itself is harsher, sweetier and more primitive, and angels envy just wants to be a good scotch so bad it is actually kind of funny.

also, jack daniels is shitty, don't go that way, especialy with these laughable honey wierdo blends.

No. There's a few well-respected brands that charge a higher price per bottle and a few micro-distilleries that claim to be a higher quality product with no additives. You're unlikely to ever see a 25 year old bottle of single-barrel Caribbean rum because it would be prohibitively expensive. Three quarters of every barrel would be lost to evaporation. If you buy a bottle of rum with a number on it, it may only have a few drops of rum that old included in the blend.
