Just got home from work, picked up the bottle on the left. Very nice, old world style shiraz, unfiltered and v tasty. Rockford is my favourite Barossa valley winery, I try to get to the cellar door once every other month.
Pairing with Coles brand rosemary crackers, some tasty cheese and some ash goats cheese.

I know jack shit about cheeses, despite me working at the cheese department of a grocerystore when I was young. So, I'll just get Roquefort, Camembert, Brie, Old Amsterdam and some goat cheese.
I know even less about wine. I'm seriously clueless on the subject. I bought a book about it, but never even read it. I usually only buy cheap merlots for crying out loud.
As for crackers. I might get a zeekaak (rough translated: seacookie), as nobody probably even knows what they are.
I'd totally suck at a cheese and wine party.
Then again. I'd probably wouldn't want to hang around with the people who throw 'm.

I don't know if they have water biscuits in America but I strongly recommend trying them. Also lurpak.

>cheeses
I wouldn't suggest cheddar, it is more of a heavy meal cheese, the first few cheeses to sate hunger should be like edam and gouda. Crumbly cheeses like wensleydale are a bit dry and difficult to handle so they should be crumbled and mixed with a bit of butter.

This is then followed by stilton and parmesan. Pour some hot water in a bowl, place a smaller bowl in it and the cheese in the small bowl to melt it for extra flavor, doesn't need to be completely melted like fondue.

Stilton and port are a traditional combination, originally parmesan and port as enjoyed by Samuel Pepys. Unpasteurized homemade blue cheese and a heady port will lead to vivid dreams.

Always throw some smoked cheddar and brie in there, go light on the blue, not many people like it. Otherwise go with anything you fancy. quarter slice of Dutch Edam with the wax still on looks fancy
A sweet onion chutney goes great with cheeses like that, but might be a bit dark if you're serving mainly white wine.
Get a variety of crackers, anything from more biscuit ones to the cardboard wafer things.
Don't know much about wine, but the rest of the posts seem to know what they're talking about.

Cheeses: I like to go with three. A mild and soft one, such as a fresh goat cheese, a harder and more flavourful one such as an aged Beemster, and finally a blue of some sort, either Roquefort or Stilton.

Wine will be a white from Alsace, probably a Gewürztraminer, and a red from Italy, usually an Amarone or a Barolo.

Crackers will be these five times out of six.

I will also serve walnuts, grapes, sliced pears, and fresh figs if they are in season.
