It's not "unawareness" that makes it bullshit. It's the fact large amounts of people spend many years of their lives (sometimes every year of their lives) not bothering with breakfast and it hasn't caused some breakfast deprivation based premature death epidemic. If it were really that important you wouldn't need a gimmicky campaign to try to convince people it's "important." The average guy burns around 2500 kcal, if you stick with a 1900-2000 kcal you won't gain weight and maybe even loose some overtime. It's a matter of eating things that satiates better (whole bread has a little more kcals but you'll feel more filled rather than if you went for refined, normal bread) and discipline. IIt is plenty if you eat like that for an extended period as you get used to eating like that.
Which is not an entirely good thing because it might mean that your body is adapting to use less energy hence your metabolism might start to slow down to accommodate your diet.

That being said, 1200 kcal isn't that bad for 3 meals, that's 400 kcal, so like 2 eggs or a chicken leg and a bunch of greens/ tree packs of instant oatmeal with some berries/a grilled cheese sandwich with some small vegetable. That's pretty good.
Alternatively, you can make it two meals- that's 600 kcal each, so you can even eat something less healthy like a BicMac or an instant ramen with egg, cheese or ham and some greens.
If you want to eat more often, you can make it 4 meals- two meals with 400 kcal, two with 200 kcal. For your 200 kcal meals you can have a small fruit, a candy(granola) bar, a back of kefir or yogurt or some equally small snack just to keep the hunger away.
Or you can make it one meal and eat anything you want pretty much but it’s a bad idea of its own since you might make your stomach too big or even damage it.
