So, i fell for the keto meme.
Im quite enjoying it so far and im feeling great, but i've been eating pretty much just eggs, pork belly and pork chops and avocados for 2 weeks and im starting to get bored.
What are some quintessential foods that i need to stack up on and just mix each day?

Type 1 diabetes means all carbs you eat get pissed out again as glucose. This upsets the osmotic gradient in your kidneys, leading to excessive urination. Along with glucose, you piss out electrolites, among which potassium your body could have used to regulate your blood pH. So now you have dehydration, acidemia, hyponatremia, hypophosphatemia, hypomagnesemia, hypocalcemia, and hypokalemia. This is why you feel tired and weak.

If you're not diabetic, you're not pissing out massive amounts of water, glucose, and electrolites. Your body can regulate its blood pH and you won't enter ketoacidosis.

One of the first things people complain about with keto is the stress it puts on the kidneys and the resulting thirstiness. Obviously because the body of a keto hipster isn't falling apart (yet) it isn't going to be anywhere near as fucked as a diabetic, but that doesn't mean keto is good for you.

The thirstyness is a result of 2 things.
1. Your body is moving into ketosis which breaks down the fat in your body. It's a chemical reaction and you need water to help that reaction continue.
2. With less carbs being eaten your body stores less water and you urinate more.

Keto is not meant as a long term diet, and anyone pushing for that is a weak willed retard. It's good for taking weight off, but once you reach a healthy weight you need to switch off it. Countless medical professionals have stated this, and all research points to it probably being a really terrible idea to be on for more than a few months at most.

That said, I am switching off it after 9 months and 100lbs of weight loss. Never really experienced anything terrible except from abnormally oily urine, but that is just a symptom of ketosis. Will probably resume around new year's. Until then I'm keeping my caloric deficit and eating 30/30/40 CPF. Steadily going to ease into 40/40/20, so that I don't become diabetic from my likely fucked up insulin.

That's probably the scariest part of keto. You cannot healthily just switch off. Your blood sugar will cuck you into next week with too many carb bombs at once. You have to ease back in. The right way to do it is to increase incrementally by around 20-30 each week.

My FAVORITE keto meal is always wings. I'm lazy with it though, so my wing recipe follows the Serious Eats oven baked wings recipe... Salt and Baking Powder, let sit uncovered for 24 hrs, bake. Add sauce at end. SO good.

I also eat a lot of veg, my favorite of which being cabbage for bulk (Eggroll in a bowl!) or in soups... or Asparagus for a fast microwaved veg. 12 spears of trader joes frozen grilled asparagus is 25 cal and 2 net carbs. Add fats and flavors, and you've got a super tasty side.

I don't get avocados a lot, I never seem to eat them before they turn. Instead, I get guac singles.... Spicy guac 100 cal singles from aldi's are like 2g net.

Also, Zuchini is great in a gratin (pic included). and cauliflower rice, made into fried rice, is a favorite staple for me.

Currently doing plant-based ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting

Last night I had:

> Pre-dinner snack
Several types of olives and some steamed brocolli sprayed with mct oil and a mix of sodium and potassium chloride

> Green Salad
Mix of spinach and greens, celery stalks, radish, avocado, green bell pepper, raw red onion, and peanuts, with a mayo and tomatillo hot sauce dressing

> Cabbage wrap
Cabbage was salted and steamed to soften. Spread on a layer of baba ganouj, crispy fried zucchini, roasted asparagus, crumbled/seasoned/fried tempeh, and some vegetarian black pudding made of minced roasted mushrooms, walnuts, pureed fried onion/soy sauce/spices, held together with konjac with chunks of konjac and tofu mock fat

> Leftover mapo tofu
Toasted szechuan peppercorns, fermented black bean-garlic and broad bean-chili paste, and because I'm white and therefor apt to ruin ethnic recipes, also toasted some star anise, a mix of hot chilis, some coriander seeds, garlic and ginger, added some sesame oil and stirred to coat, then poured (through strainer) into a pot of some fresh mushroom stock and simmered a few minutes.
Fried tofu in some of the oil that was left behind until slightly golden, then tossed into the stock and simmered a few minutes more, using a couple ladels of stock to try to get the rest of the oil into the pot.
Scooped tofu into a baking dish with some of the stock, mixed in some separately roasted-and-ground szechuan pepper, and then braised it.

> Dessert pie
Made a thin crust by mixing together almond flour, ground flax seed, and a little MCT oil and camelina sativa oil, and pre-baking; for a filling, blended silken tofu with stevia, lactic acid powder, vanilla, salt, and lambda carrageenan/xanthan gum mix, poured onto chilled crust, topped with a few blueberries

I'm confirming ketosis using a combination of urine strips and a breath tester.

It’s clear that you have never ever read any of Keys’ work and are just thinking you’ve made some shocking discovery in which he’s contradicted one of the most prominent findings in his career. What he’s actually referring to is the fact that cholesterol levels plateau when you’ve consumed enough dietary cholesterol and the addition of any more cholesterol or cholesterol in general has no effect on these levels. This is in reference to a shoddy anecdote of a man with dementia self reporting he eats 25 eggs a day despite contradicting accounts from others. Keto4life. Why? Not just the weight control, it keeps your teeth and gums very healthy, mosquitos don't want to bite you anymore, it reduces/prevents inflammation which makes everything in your body work better, e.g. helps allergies, depression, indigestion, the list goes on an on.

My favorite recipe recently is to make some keto mugbread (put low-carb flour, an egg and baking powder into a mug and the microwave for two minutes, cut into slices). Then put some berries and whipped coconut cream on it, yummy.

I like to make cabbage soup. Boil some cabbage, and then add whatever spices and broth and meat, maybe a little bit of carrots, onions, etc. Sesame oil is a god-tier seasoning that goes with most things, add a little bit of that too. Cook an omelet and roll it up and cut it into thin strips and add to the soup, it's kind of like noodles.

Also you can make protein shakes, mixing and matching protein and fiber drink mixes, nuts and seeds like hemp, pecans, almonds, maybe add some greens like spinach.

It's easy to make sugar-free gelatin or gummy candy. Also you can get away with a bit of dark chocolate.

Some fruit is okay, usually I get frozen berries, you can probably get away with a single apple a day.

On keto you get to happily fill up on fat. It's easy to make a creamy beverage, make it taste good with salt, stevia/erythritol/etc, chai/pumpkin spice and so forth. Make sure you measure how many calories are in it though. A cup of pure cream has 800 calories, make sure you water that shit down plenty. You can also make nut milk by putting nuts in a blender with water and then straining the solids out. Then I save the solids in the mugbread or protein shake.

But seasonings are your friend, easiest thing to do is eat the same thing everyday but with different seasonings. You can eat plenty of salt because on keto your body flushes it out quickly. Best seasoning: smoke paprika, sesame oil, ginger, cayenne, garlic, onion, or just buy some premixed spices.

Source? Almost 40% of the calories of breast milk comes from lactose, and isn't the keto diet supposed to be less than 10% carbs?

One study says that only some babies are in ketosis, but if they're in ketosis with 40% of the calories coming from lactose, maybe it's only because their stomachs are too small to fully supply all the calories they need? So they're in ketosis only to use up their fat stores?

Most people eat too many carbs, especially refined ones, but I don't think that means they need to be limited so extremely. I get acne if I eat more than a few grams of refined sugar but my skin is fine if I'm drinking milk with lactose in it.

if you're a type 1 diabetic. if you aren't then ketosis doesn't lead to ketoacidosis. ketoacidosis involves both sky-high ketone levels and sky-high sugar levels, if your body makes reasonable amounts of insulin then neither of those can happen, the insulin/ketone control loop does not appear to be susceptible to insulin resistance. some doctors freak out about ketosis anyway, because ketoacidosis is deadly and they have malpractice premiums to worry about so they err on the side of caution. but ketosis itself is very common, most people go into ketosis while they sleep. the cortisol spike that wakes them up in the morning triggers the liver to release glucose and gets you out of ketosis.

1 cup flax meal
1/3 cup finely shredded parmesan
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup water
knead until its a firm dough
roll thin on a silicon mat, with some wax paper on top to keep it from sticking. if it doesn't roll well then add more water and knead some more. you want it to be about 1/8" thick, and the same thickness throughout. score it with a pizza cutter so you can break it into clean pieces later.
bake at 400 deg for 15-20 mins, depending on your oven and how much water you added. once the water evaporates it will only take another minute or so for the parmesan to melt. it should be firm but not hard when you take it out, it will finish hardening when it cools. makes 100-130 crackers.

Eating cholesterol doesnt actually affect your cholesterol level much, because your body makes nearly enough cholesterol for its needs regardless of what you eat. If your cholesterol levels are low then eating foods high in cholesterol will raise your cholesterol levels to normal levels, but if you consume more than that then your body will simply make less cholesterol, so the cholesterol levels dont change much. The total cholesterol number doesn't matter much for your health anyway btw, that was demonstrated decades ago, HDL seems to be helpful for preventing heart attacks while triglycerides seem to cause them. Eating saturated and monounsaturated fats raise HDL, while cutting carbs lowers your triglycerides. Keto diets do both, so the changes in cholesterol composition will make your doctor happy.
