Well, me, personally, as a man of culture and impeccable taste, drink only "mocktails" to avoid the degradation of my character and the righteousness of my soul. Depends on the circumstance:

Classic Margarita on a hot day
2 parts anejo tequila
1 part lime juice
1 part cointreau

Shake over ice then strain into a rocks class, no salt rim.

French 75 when celebrating
2 parts gin
1 part lemon juice
1 part simple syrup

Shake over ice then strain into a champagne flute and top with traditional method sparkling wine

Absinthe Martini after work:
3 parts gin
1 part dry, french vermouth

Stir with ice until well chilled and double strain into a Coupe glass. I like two thick bits of lemon peel (lots of pith), expressing the oils on the drink before dropping in and adding a dash of absinthe.

Incomplex tinctures are my fancy.
Cocktails are like pizza for me. Too many constituents and you end up overthrowing the devine naiveté.

A couple of my preferred include:

Sazerac
A New Orleans take on a cognac cocktail.
Splash of absinthe in the bottom of the glass just for flavor. The rest is topped off with rye whiskey. Splash of bitters and a small sliver of orange or lemon peel lightly crushed. Served over crushed ice.

Gin Gimlet
Gin. Lime juice. Soda.
I prefer mine with a bit of lightly crushed mint leaf although some have been known to enjoy with basil.

Your sazerac recipe is incorrect. Not just a "splash" of bitters, you add Pechouds until the drink is bright red, it's stirred over ice and served neat, and you need a sugar cube or at least simple syrup. Absinthe should be swirled in the glass then discarded.

If I'm making French 75s at home I don't buy sparkling wine. It tastes the same with a light, dry white like pinot grigio or unoaked chardonnay; in fact I usually prefer it that way. I guess I can see where the sparkling wine could go flat before you finished it but I never drink less than 25 drinks (750ml = 25oz) in a 3-day period, so I never had that problem anyway.

Gin is like flavored vodka, with the distinction that it's redistilled with botanicals instead of mixed cold with something like bullshit "whipped cream flavor" from ye olde chemical plant. So yes, it's "flavored vodka" but mostly it's "flavored vodka" when you're wielding the connotations behind that to clown someone

Use better vermouth. A lot of bars probably use cheap Martini&Rossi or California red vermouth that's been open for a long time. Try making it yourself with a good rye and a top shelf vermouth like Cocchi di Torino or Carpano Antica Formula.

Switch it up dude! As >>10900882 said, they might just be using garbage vermouth or not making it very well. Definitely try making it yourself and experiment a little with the ratios. If you find you still don't like it after trying it a few different ways of making it yourself, maybe it's time to try a new cocktail. For god's sake, there are enough drinks out there that you shouldn't be forcing yourself to drink something you aren't fond of.

This sounds odd but it works. Apparently Hemingway used to drink this a lot. Don't have a name for it though.
1 shot absinthe, 1 shot cognac in the same glass. Optionally a splash of water or a bit of ice.

Also, a question, I couldn't find anything online: how did bar tabs work before credit cards were invented? Did you prepay cash or did they just have a piece of paper with your total on it?
I tend to only pay cash but I hate having to get out my cash every time I want a drink and count out a tip and everything. Is it rude to just give the bartender $100 at the beginning and ask for the change at the end? At say, a nice cocktail bar without too many people.

If I'm at home, its the end of the month and I can't be bothered making an effort: Cheeky Vimto (don't judge)

Normally at home: margarita (waiting for sugar syrup to cool is a pain), an el diablo or french 75 (with grenadine and pomegranate seeds)

Hungover: spicy bloody mary with a splash of port of red wine

On holiday on a beach: miami vice

Out and about: martini, lemon drop martini or an espresso martini. Although generally when I go places I try and order any unique cocktails they have.

Looking at this I have disgustingly sweet tooth.
