Is stevia safe? I'm reading about it and can't seem to find any conclusive information. Some sources say it causes cancer, others say it helps prevent it. What gives?
I'm not even actively using it as a sugar substitute, but I'm seeing it show up in more and more foods/drinks lately.

not sure, I personally don't like the taste of it, but if you're at high risk for diabetes then its probably a better choice than sugar.

Unlike most artificial sweeteners, the FDA does not have an allowable daily intake, which I would guess is because their toxicology data supports it's lack of toxicity. That said, the FDA doesn't investigate diabetic affects of artificial sweeteners as well as they should, so I guess just use sparingly?

My bad, I was thinking monk fruit, Stevia actually is pretty low, like 4 mg/kg/day so a lot less than any other is safe per day. Unless you have PKU, aspartame is a better bet by a long shot.

It's just a sugar that is too complex for your body to break down. It still tastes sweet because it is a sugar, but humans do not have the enzymes necessary to break it down into the glucose that your body can process. It just sort of goes through your body, not being absorbed, thus providing no energy to your body.

I think truvia is better for you but I heard this from my mother who is a facebook health nut. Occasionally though she does steer me right and I've never been able to find anything bad about truvia because its supposedly all natural

Stevia is one of the sweetest sugar alternatives which also makes it one of the worst. Your brain sends messages to produce insulin when you taste sugar regardless if it is actually true sugar or not.

Literally false, it's only about 200-600 times as sweet as sugar. Neotame and Advantame are 20,000 and 10,000 times as sweet as sugar respectively for example. Production of insulin is a lot more complicated than just taste. Sucrulose is close enough in chemical structure to sucrose that your body will do this, but it's not true for many other sweeteners.

I'm a brainlet, but I've seen studies saying that artificial sweeteners like sweet and low and spenda activate hormones like insulin, IGF, leptin, and grelin are similar if not more active than regular sugar. Splenda doesn't do the same thing biologically. The thing is, is that splenda just doesn't taste good half the time. I can do sweet tea with splenda, no problem, but sweet tea with splenda is disgusting to me. I've have things with a distinct taste where it doesn't seem to make as much of a difference. I got a chocolate protein powder that I mix with milk that is only sweetened with splenda, and I can't tell. I'm no expert, but my experience is that splenda is shit when delicate flavors are a factor, but not when it's something to guzzle down like cum.

Stevia isn't anything new, it's been used in products in Japan for a long time. It can't be that bad.

It tastes artificial though, my favorite is to use stevia mixed with erythritol.

I dunno about the health stuff but I do dislike the taste.
What I really hate is my local supermarket chain(and the biggest in the county) has begun to add this shit to reduce sugar in a number of their store brand products without any real statement saying it does so you're met with a nasty suprise everytime you're unlucky enough to buy one.

Provide a single reliable peer-reviewed study supporting its carcinogenicity and I'll leave 4chan for good. Aspartame is metabolized into phenylalanine, asparagine and methanol IN THE STOMACH. Last I checked amino acids didn't cause cancer, and you'll get more methanol from a slightly over-ripened banana.
Unless you're going full MLG mode on diet mountain dew and have phenylketonurea, you're not in any danger.
