Trust me, all these stupid hipster root beers like virgils, they go too hard on the anise/licorice flavor, just bullshit to get the "gourmets". Anise should be a light touch with other spices, not the main flavor.

Dads is flavorless, sprechers is A rank but not quite S rank. Weinhard's tastes just like chain root beers. Jones' is B tier, solid but only if there's no other craft rootbeers around. Hard Root Beer is disgusting, F tier. Abita is A tier too, but too sweet/vanilla-y. Frostie is D tier, butterscotch root beer is great but only for one sip before you feel sick.

Red Arrow is the best though, S tier. They go heavy on the wintergreen. Good carbonation, perfect balance of sweetness and sarsaparilla. Only a little anise and pairs it with nice spices so it doesn't overshadow the wintergreen and sarsa.
