Not actually true. When I stopped drinking I gained weight.

Probably a combo of when I was drinking, I would purposely eat very little, to get the best of the buzz.

And now that I stopped, I don't have any coping mechanism besides food. Used to use benzos and booze to deal with anxiety and depression. Now it's Culvers and Cheetos.

Granted I have only ever had negative coping mechanisms. So I'm not the rule. Far from it.

It's just like how it's hard for people who want to lose weight to accept that the transitional period of adjusting to radical diet changes (in terms of how much they eat) is going to be seriously uncomfortable.

For them, it's feeling constantly unsatisfied with their meals for weeks or even months, and even once that's gone they'll always have the knowledge they have the capacity to eat so much more which will tempt them whenever they're just out to enjoy themselves.

For you, it's going to be eating decently past the point of being "full." You're going to feel like you're good, and you're going to have to consistently eat more than that. You're going to want delay or even pass up a meal because you're not that hungry yet, then say no to yourself and eat a whole damn meal right then when you don't even feel like it.

Honestly it's more trouble than it's worth but once you're used to it and get into a regular habit at least you won't be hounded by the impulse to eat less in the same way a person who cut down their diet would feel the desire to eat more.

I feel you OP.
I'm not 110 lbs because I would be dead, I am much much taller than you, however I am still skinny. I count calories I eat no less than 3000 calories a day usually 3400 calories a day and I don't eat more only because I don't have the $$. So I don't eat all that expensive stuff you listed like McDonalds. In my adult life I weighed in at a peak of 178 lb. (still underweight) after two weeks of christmas holiday binge eating and I was down to 165 again by the month of March. Weight gain sources seem to have zero impact, or sometimes even negative impact because it'll actually suppress my hunger.
