It grows plentifully here, especially across the midwest, and the American government subsidizes American crops to give them a competitive advantage in our own market. Stuff like soy, corn, and dairy are all subsidized by the government, which makes prices extremely low. So much so, that it's more economical for big businesses to use corn and soy as filler in food than to just make good whole food. Capitalism dictates that if it's cheaper, it's better.
