Why? I drove OTR in my 20's. Absolutely loved it. You're not gonna get rich doing it, but you'll make a decent-to-good living and don't have to deal with cunty co-workers or mouth-breathing general public customers. If you have introvert tendencies and are in an otherwise shitty job, consider driving. Drivers are in huge demand these days, so after you do 6-8 months at Swift or Roehl, you can go anywhere. Good Fed Ex drivers can make 100K if they can do tandem/triple. Sure as fuck beats McPerro's.

dunno about ups, but i believe they're mostly unionized so you'd have to do it through the teamsters or some shit. good luck with that though since i think the driving jobs are fairly hard to get
fedex drivers are almost entirely contracted or subcontracted out, so you'd either rent your shit from fedex or get hired through a smaller company. if you're talking about the actual trucks and not delivery i have no idea how either works, sorry

You drive 11 hrs a day with a 30 min lunch break on long hauls. Delivering or picking up you get 3 more hours of doing nothing. So, technically, 14 hrs is the max.

Listen to the radio (xm helps), listen to podcasts, sing along to songs, ect. helps on the drive. 5 hour energy and chain smoking helps at 4 am. I have a switch that I play when I'm getting loaded or unloaded. And of course shitposting on 4chan.

I make 70k a year doing it. Hopefully safety releases me to drive again soon. I already retained my license through a hearing.

You claim that using "boomer" as an insult for any random person just because you don't like them is inappropriate, since they may not in fact be a boomer. Tough call. Welding is a very in-demand skill, especially if oil prices continue to climb. But then so is truck driving. Do you hate the people you work with? Do you like being alone? Do you want to see the country (sort of, anyway?) If so, consider truck driving. If not, maybe stay a welder.

Fedex Freight are all company drivers. Fedex Ground are almost all contractors with a very few company drivers.

Also, things have gotten so tight in the Trucking Industry that UPS are actually advertising for drivers. It used to be you needed to know someone, and then work your way up. Now, you will most likely start out as a fill in driver, but some locations will start you out full time. They do require previous experience though.

he's trying to make the meme about the pig farmer that fed the dead body to the pigs

it's pretty dumb to imagine that the absence of a body is what ends a murder investigation. being a suspect is not a good thing. the best strategy is for no murder investigation to ever be opened. you kill someone with your cage and say "oops! I was just checking my phone and he just came outta nowhere!" and they'll let you walk. I mean walk figuratively of course, cagers don't walk, at all. that's gommunism and also what if you get all sweaty.

so professional drivers will be pushed out to the countryside? what happens when they update their infrastructure after ten years of increasing logistics demand?

i mean, it's like saying farriers aren't obsolete because there are still a handful of pockets of rural america where ranchers would conceivably still ride horses.

>what happens when they update their infrastructure after ten years of increasing logistics demand?

That will happen to some of the country, sure. But certainly not all of it. There is a massive part of the country where it will probably never make economic sense to improve infastructure to that degree.

As for your farrier example: I was about to complain that it was a poor analogy, but it really isn't. Sure, you're right that the average person has no need for a farrier anymore. But plenty of people in rural areas ride horses. And there are plenty of other uses too: race horses. nearly all major cities have mounted police for crowd control. military units also use horses. There are equestrian sports as well.
