Only thing I see missing is a pack of chicken breasts or thighs and you've got a solid bunch of groceries. A bunch of eggs, a bunch of beans and rice with some tortillas and vegetables. I see nothing wrong with this. If more SNAP families ate like this they wouldn't be poor and fat as shit with their little heifer pack of rat children waddling down the street or breaking a sweat walking from the counter to the table at MacDonald's.

Chicken is cheap in the US.
Food isn't expensive in the US. Healthy (or healthier, or whatever word you want to use) food is a bit more expensive than unhealthy food.
Also we produce huge amounts of some foodstuffs (rice and wheat, come to mind) and therefore can undercut prices in other regions.

I was on EBT when in between jobs and working odd jobs for like 1.1k/month and got $150/month as a single person which is $37.5/week. If a family you get more. Also if you put a minimum effort into cooking you can just buy flour, masa harina, etc and make artisan breads, tortillas, pasta, whatever. Since I know how to cook and shop, $37.5/week was enough to eat fairly well although you definitely have to put some thought into every purchase. If you're supporting a big family and don't have any income then it would probably be a lot harder even though you'd receive more, I was right at the income cutoff threshold.

I mean just look at that picture, the most ridiculous thing in that picture, truly has to be the kale and the corn tortillas, afterwards the sweet potato, limes, avocado and cilantro come at a very close mid tier ridiculous. all because of pricing. Kale will cost you at a cheap place, $1 a bunch and it just doesn't yield a hell of a lot for meals. Cabbage is the cheapest food you can buy in the USA, at 50 cents a pound at most places, it will yield a lot for a meal if you're ok with cabbage, it is laughable that picture does not include carrots at $1 a pound it is one of the cheapest veggies you can also eat on.

Same for snack cakes, I can go buy a single snack cake for 30 or 40 cents in EU, in USA you have to buy a whole fucking box for 2.99 or 3.99, you end up with more junk, and you end up consuming more junk as a result.

those two are very different. if you have a meat counter at your grocery store and can buy a single lb of chicken or half a pound or 15lbs of it that is one thing you can name the price by the pound all you want.

if on the other hand you have packaged meats then the pound price is just marketing. price may be 79 cents per pound but if you can never buy a single pound because all the packages have weights like 5lbs or, even worse, variable weights because not all chickens weigh the same, it becomes impossible to compare prices because you dont buy by the pound you buy by the pack. congrats on having a meat counter by the way.
