Who the fuck is in charge of keeping this thread up and running?
I never post in it, but I bought some beers of interest and took a pic to post in the thread.
So far, so good.
The IPA was good, so was the Foudre Punch. The saison wasn't great, but it was good. I'm expecting that the others are going to be good too. How was your night? Good?

Also, craft beer is so diverse based upon region that this is a stupid type of thread to make a general upon since even a state line can mean the difference between availability and desolation.

So, are you saying that there should be "West Coast IPA Thread General" threads, or that every "general" thread is a slide thread?
Sounds like a contradiction.
But really, every thread is a slide thread on /ck/. There's nothing worthwhile here.

Hope your night is going well. Mine is good.
Here is the Peach Galaxy in a glass. It's pretty good.
I prefer their painted bottles (I think it's classy) but the glued label may have allowed them to drop the price a bit??? Not sure if that was their intention. I was pleasantly surprised with this. Was expecting more "spice" but I'm getting jammy peach. Apricot, even. And the bourbon is just there for effect (as in, I'm not drunk enough), but it is actually working with the peach. Happy accident.
Looking forward to being black-out and dipping into this potato burrito.

Oh yeah. Thats also a thing
Originally when no one could get any Toppling Goliath it was all brewed at their original brewery in Decorah, at that point everything was in bombers I think (this phase was mostly only available limitedly in Iowa, Madison, and Milwaukee all self distributed by one guy as I understand)
Then they started contract brewing at a place in Florida, these are the 4 packs that have been available the last few years in the plastic holders, all of the bombers were still from their original brewery. This allowed expansion into the rest of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Chicago, and much more ready availability (but almost entirely 4 packs and some bombers from decorah, very rare to see it on tap)
Much more recently they have opened a new, much larger brewery in Decorah to replace their original, these are the 4 pack cans available in cardboard boxes, and I was skeptical that they would taste better, but they are awesome. PseudoSue was always great in any format but the most recent ones I have had are better than ever.
I think they have stopped using the contract brewer, all of the 4 packs I have seen here in Milwaukee recently have been from the new brewery, but I have heard they have started some distribution to some disparate states recently so perhaps those are using their old contract partner, and also it is becoming much more common on tap around here

This is an objectively wrong stance. Maybe was closer to the truth 15 years ago, but the market is super competitive now. Its really hard to generate a following if you don't make good beer, and most of the larger more mediocre craft brewers from the 90s that grew in a less competitive market are retracting now due to pressure from new smaller local breweries
If you are a new brewery of the last few years (which like a quarter of them are) you basically need to start with a really good IPA, a mediocre west coast IPA as a flagship doesn't cut it anymore

It's not a meme, it's just really good by flyover standards. It's considered slightly above average out on the coast, and only has it's cult status because NG refuses to distribute out of state, so mid-west fags think they have something special.

>> No.10530154

>t's just really good by flyover standards
The upper midwest has as high of standards for beer as anywhere else, if not higher

Also, the biggest reason for it's cult status is that its only in Wisconsin, not the midwest in general, so Chicago people are largely responsible for the myth behind it. Its easy enough to drive and pick up that many have had it, but just enough effort is required that its a thing

Its super solid for what it is though one of the best of the style, and actually outsells Bud Light in Wisconsin, which as far as I can tell it is the only craft beer to outsell Bud Light in any state, and its absolutely great at getting older people who used to only drink shitty beer to start drinking better beer. As far as beers New Glarus makes though, it is nothing special. On the other hand basically every sour fruit beer New Glarus does and pretty much every limited 4 pack release is pretty special

>> No.10531030

Honestly it varies by market. I live in NJ, which seems to be a solid 5-7 years behind other states when it comes to beer. In recent years, they lifted some state restrictions, and the number of craft breweries has exploded. 80% is shit, and most of them are getting by on being "local". Even nationally, the number of players in the market is completely unsustainable, and the industry overall is starting to trend downwards even if you take the top 50 craft breweries out of the equation (which is like 85% of volume). The next 1-2 years are going to be very interesting, and we're going to see a lot more breweries get acquired/close their doors. The small super-local guys will be ok, and the big guys with national footprints (Sam, Sierra, New Belgium) can weather the storm, but a lot of the regional breweries that over extended their distribution are in trouble.
