It would take approx 2500 grams of sugar ingested all at once to possibly kill you. 11g of sugar in your bbq sauce is nothing.

And to put that into perspective, you would have to chug about 15 cups of that sauce. Even then, there's only a ~50% chance of it being fatal.

This is the best BBQ sauce if you want something with less sugar. It's supposed to be used when you're actually smoking food though, so it doesn't have smoke flavoring in it, it tastes more like tomato. It's like a less sweet, more spiced ketchup, which is probably close to what ketchup originally was too.

Make stuff by yourself => don't add sugar => sugar avoided.

It sounds simple, but most people who struggle with sodium and sugar in their diets would fix everything by just following that advice.

If you want some sweetness caramelize some onions or roast some red bellpepper and add it to the dish, try to coax out sweetness from ingredients instead of adding sugar.

>Easy. Cook from scratch instead of buying processed foods.
This. BBQ sauce is easy mode cooking. I'm sure it's why there is a side burner on most propane grills. You _simply_ saute onions, garlic, maybe peppers, hit them with some deglazing bourbon or roasty-rich tasting coffee, simmer with a little vinegar of your choice and other flavors of your choice from brown sugar or honey or agave, ginger, chilies or chili flakes, pinches of this or that, from citrus zest to like mustard powder or allspice or crushed pepper, and go with the tomato ketchup or crushed tomatoes in tomato paste idea.
Total time? Not even 15 minutes, and you make it while you do your meat. You can blend it to make it smooth. Customize it to make your theme or sides, from more or less tangy, more sweet and thick as a glaze or a wet mopping sauce. It's all good. I've made large batches of a favorite spiced coffee-molasses BBQ sauce (reminiscent of Uncle Tom's in Miami) in a pressure cooker with bits of tough brisket to mock up the "drippings" kind of old fashioned sauce that is very spiced with cloves and allspice with little sweetness tempered by blackstrap molasses.
