Would have responded sooner but ive been b& for the past few days. Depends on what you're using. Fluid bed roasters(popcorn poppers, freshroast sr500 etc) are incredibly easy to use, depending on your controls. I've used a heavily modded cheap popper for a couple years, then just bought a popper* a couple months ago. I'm about to rip out the knobs and timer to replace with an arduino and raspberry pi for logging,PIDing, and other dumb unnecessary shit. For $79 its a stupid value and you'll break even in like 5lbs. This version won't do darker roasts so if thats what you're looking for wait for the v2 in fall.

>What I would say is if a coffee is a darker more developed roast and you enjoy that know that its going to be easier to get those very bitter very harsh kind of ashy smoky flavors out of them. Don't brew quite as hot. Brewing in essentially the mid to high 80s(185f) in terms of celcius will yield a kind of smoother less bitter result that should still be plenty extracted.
