I use one of these, no clue if it actually makes it better like the site says but I do like making a single cup of coffee without needing to do an entire pot.

Also for your coffee filter, when you put it in, give it a run of hot water and let it drain out before putting in coffee and your water for brewing, rinsing the filter helps get rid of a paper taste.
