After living in Japan for 4 years, I can tell you with certainty that 90% of the shit you see in those "Japanese food etiquette" videos and guides is complete bullshit.

Japs drench their sushi in soy sauce, nobody gives a fuck what you do with your chopsticks, and nobody is impressed by how loud you can slurp your ramen.

So heart attacks run in my family and as of my latest physical my cholesterol level is 215ish (35, M, 170lbs, 5'11"). What are some good meal ideas to keep it low? I was eating a lot of meat recently (steaks, tacos/nachos without many vegetables, hamburgers, etc.) without really intending to, so maybe that's partially to blame. I love fish but there's no good sushi places around, and I'm afraid of mercury poisoning if I were to eat it every day. I'm trying to avoid carbs but don't really have any strong dietary limitations. Any thoughts? Kinda worried because my uncle was a lifetime cross country runner and died in his mid-60s suddenly from a heart attack and my father has high levels as well despite being a gym nut.

Sushi is extremely bland, and I'm tired of pretending it's not.

I have been wondering, if you give the same quality fishes and ingredients for two different sushi chefs. One of them is normal standard street restaurant level sushi chef, the other is elite sushi master who even won national rewards. Will they really make much differences of sushi dishes? In terms of taste, will the dish made from elite sushi master taste more dilicious?

Post food you dislike and think its overrated as hell.
For me its sushi and japanese food in general.

Pic related. Actual Japanese sushi in Japan is bland and trash. Mainly because they cheap out on tasty fish like salmon in favor of random white fish that nobody else eats for a reason.
