Does your meme iron skillet also have good days and bad days? I feel like mine does. Some days it will fry an egg without sweat and it'll come off with a light shake, other days i have to pick it lose with a spatula.

I want to buy a new cast iron skillet, can anyone recommend one that will not break the bank. Looking for one that’s not pre seasoned because most seasoned ones are done using S oy beans.

How often do you guys season your cast iron? Some sources say to season it every time you use it. I haven't seasoned mine in months, but I use it a lot and clean it well, so it hardly sticks at all. Is using it frequently good enough if you already have a decent layer?

Currently buying a house and going to be living on my own finally. Have minimal to no cooking experience and have to buy my own cookware. Would it be worth it to learn how to cook on cast iron? I know cast iron requires extra steps like seasoning it, that aside how amateur friendly is it?

What are you on about? I never “seasoned” my cast-iron frying pan, I just started cooking with it using butter and I haven’t washed the pan in 10 years, simply wiping it after cooking with a paper towel.

Why aren't all utensils made out of cast iron? It's literally the perfect material, and it keeps brainlets who are too dumb to maintain it away from cooking

What is the safest cookware in terms of chemical leaching? Aluminum will give you Alzheimer's, ceramic often contains lead and cadium and will give you brain damage...

Cast iron seems the safest bet but also is a bitch to maintain. What cookware material should I choose for a set that will provide optimal functionality and yield non-toxic food for my family?

Are cast iron pans worth it for everyday cooking?
Or are they too much effort relative to the benefits you get?

Been thinking about getting one...

I use my cast iron skillet nearly everyday, it takes a bit of time to get up to temp but i'm willing to bet it would outlast any other type of pan. Cheap too.

Buy it. It's a great pan. You'll eventually want to reseason it, but the existing seasoning is okay for a start. Do some Googling, but suffice it to say you want to cook some bacon on low-medium heat before you try to make scrambled eggs.

Cast iron is neither better nor worse than carbon steel aka blue steel, aluminum, or nonstick. They're all different horses for courses, anon.
