That's because the shitty senior military leadership wants slaves, not warriors, so they encourage "marriage" and dole out just enough "free" shit to create a dependency state among their married enlisted soldiers that's little different than welfare in uniform. Single dude at the end of his enlistment can tell the military to fuck off if their leadership sucks ass, but the married soldier is far less likely to give up his housing,medical, and rations welfare.

There is absolutely no fucking reason an enlisted man should be married until they make NCO. That's part of the reason I quit.
