Hey, I never thought I'd be able to. No matter how bad things got, I continued to drink. It became less and less worth it until one day it suddenly just wasn't worth it at all. I've had no desire to drink since I quit.
But it was getting REALLY bad. 5th of vodka every night, and the blackouts were coming on after just an hour or so of drinking. Usually because I'd be feeling great then smoke weed on top of it.
I'd take cabs most of the time, but sometimes I'd drive blacked out to the store to get strong beers or wine when the bottle was gone. Smoking in the house, dropping cigarettes on my floor and clothes. Broken glass all over place, big plates of uneaten food, smoke alarm from burning pots of food, lost money, lost keys, lost phones, lost ID, strange bruises and cuts, leaving my dog places, drunken calls and texts, pissing myself, occasionally shitting myself, ....just off the top of my head. I'm lucky I didn't die.

Oh, how I wish it were reversed. There's no amount of weed that could do to me what alcohol has done. Every major fuck-up of my life happened because of booze.

If you're an actual alcoholic, your disease progresses even while not drinking. Longtime sober people that go back to drinking often find that they will drink even more than they did when they quit. I don't quite understand how it works, but there's a lot of stuff about it in the big book.

I was a fifth a night drinker for about the last ten years, but I've recently started buying two or three airline minis with the fifth (I have two days sober after a 4-day bender right now).

In my experience and that of a lot of alcoholics I know (in and out of recovery), your tolerance keeps keeps getting higher. Guys on their way out will just continually drink all damn day. Watch Leaving Las Vegas or the recent documentary Risky Drinking.

I drank myself sick again last night. Over a fifth of vodka in less than two hours. Can't sleep, can't eat, can't get out of bed.
Why do I keep doing this to myself?
It's pretty much all blackout, so I can't say I had a great time.

I'm on my third day sober (smoking weed though) and I'm a fifth-a-night vodka drinker. It's my Friday so I really hope I don't buy booze tonight. Hoping to keep on the wagon for at least a week. Those three day benders where I drink ALL DAY with no recovery time like during my work week, those weekends are really bad. Nice to talk about it.
OP: Drink lots of water and stay in bed. Weed might help. Maybe have one beer. If you can eat, do so. Hang in there.

I've got four days sober. Couldn't do it without weed. I've got to have something. But the best thing about weed is just one hit unlocks enough conscience and guilt to overpower my drive to buy that bottle. Of course my alcoholic brain usually buys the bottle before smoking the weed because he's more cunning and knows what I know.

My last bender was so bad (and the 2 1/2 day hangover) that I know I can make it a couple weeks on weed alone. But that's all I can ever go for. Two weeks is my record since diversion in 2000.

A buddy of mine had a shitload of MREs that I'd eat over there when I was drunk. Most of it was pretty decent when drunk. Didn't care for it when I was sober.
