Judging by your post, I assume you're the guy at the party drinking Whiteclaw.

use the absorption method to cook my rice. How can I add flavour to the rice?
I have used butter and I have used coconut oil to precook the rice. I have browned onion, garlic and cracked pepper to pre-cook the rice before too. All of these add flavour to my finished product.
What else can I do to give my rice flavour? Can I add spices, and if so, at which stage of the process should I add them?
My recent research (two minutes of google) have revealed that adding salt before the rice is cooked can have a negative effect on the finished product. I thought I'd bring the subject to the professionals... /ck/.

In the long term, yes. But in nature, sugar and salt are scarce enough that omnivores have evolved to find these flavors overwhelmingly appealing.
