Assuming you live in a relatively urban area of an industrialized western nation.
Remember when work boots were considered low class? Remember when rich people ate classical french? When limousines were a thing? When marble foyers weren't considered tacky, but classy? When women wore dresses and high heels instead of yoga pants and New Balance? Modernism is basically still alive in most of america, china, russia etc. In the rich western world we mostly became ironic about everything and disavowed materialism in favor of self-expression. Status is no longer about what you can afford, but what your values are. I'm not really hitting the nail on the head here, cba to effort post from phone, but you catch my drift.
