man what a fucking waste. it was OK but not like, next level game changing. not for the amount of time i spent roasting bones and making stock and premaking the sichuan oil and what i spent on the ingredients.

my gf also thought i was poisoning her because she never had sichuan peppers before and the tingling on her lips freaked her out.

my dad grew up in japan and said his maid used to make these for them. im not sure if it was a japanese thing or if the maid just slapped some american shit together not knowing what the fuck any of it was but man it is good.

my buddys mom used to make this for us all the time when we were kids and i never heard of it outside eating it there or seen it at restaurants. i fucking LOVE THIS SHIT.

a lot of the other stuff i used to eat as a kid i cant enjoy anymore bc i have a gf and she doesnt like it so i have to be in the mood for it and not have her over that day

the first is the most infuriating one. literally nothing you have to say is so important it cant wait until youre done chewing. the first 6 things i was conditioned into by my dad who would flip the fuck out and slam his fist on the table and yell if you did any of it.

doing any of that is really uncouth and disgusting and is typically done by minorities and/or jews that have no manners and dont know how to be civilized

the only time ive seen it on the menu at a restaurant i ordered it and it was watery and full of carrots and other filler vegetables aka it was fucking awful.

ive made it at home a few times the correct way but getting thinly sliced pork is such a bitch unless i go to an asian market to get it. every fucking time i go to a regular supermarket and ask them to slice a shoulder thin they give me a bunch of shit like "i guess if ya really want it that thin, heh" and they still dont cut it thin enough and they just end up shredding the meat up all half ass.
