Life is shit when you're poor. Your parents often end up too busy working their multiple jobs to barely keep a roof over your head, and what's left doesn't really leave room to go to places where you can find out what nice things are.

In a way, it's merciful, as a child. If you don't know what it's like when things are better, it's not going to hurt as much when things are awful, and you don't have quite the same chance of killing yourself. Most people just get a bit bitter when they get old and find this stuff out, though, because most likely they won't be able to afford it either. They don't get access to the experience, and it's a hard, long, and potentially risky journey to get to the point of recreating the experience by yourself. When things aren't going great in general, you don't want to have to "eat your mistakes" like most new cooks have to, either. You just want to eat something carnally appealing because you have to be at work again pretty soon.

Travel is still extremely limited for a huge amount of people. Congratulations on being born into enough wealth to avoid this.
