what are the easiest meals I can learn to cook to not be considered a total embarrassment in the kitchen? I just need the absolute barebones essentials so I can cook basic meals for people when they stay with me

right now I can barely cook anything, and even when I do I never really take the items I make and pair them with things to become actual meals. the only proper dinners I ever make for myself are chili+rice, salmon + asparagus, and steak and potatoes (reverse seared- the only moderately impressive thing in my bag)

I don't really care about eating healthy atm and I'm really not interested in getting good at cooking, it's just not my thing. I just want the bare minimum an adult should be able to do

Is there any reason I couldn't use dried beans to make chili as long as I compensate by adding enough liquid? I have dried kidney beans and don't want to go buy canned, so I was thinking of making chili w dried beans snd just letting it cook longer. Seems like a win/win to me since they will absorb the flavor of the beef and seasonings, but I have not seen any recipes that do this after searching a bit.

You know it's chili, bro. Hamburger, a couple of cans of cheap beans, a little cummin here, a little chili powder there. Toss in what ever else you've got in the fridge... Stew all that down for an hour or two. Serve over rice, pasta, potatoes, tortillas, whatever. It's a wonder meal.
