Not really but thanks for LARPing.

I bet your "wife" uses Ballpark Franks and generic chili with beans and all, not even a proper chili sauce.

Also once you get down to bun autism, you're crossing the line and missing the point, like having a burger with a gimmick bread bun and over dressing it, you're getting into the territory of missing the point of the food

>I always wondered about that, how is hot dog chili different? Is it just ground beef paste?

Here in Michigan, the home of the coney dog, the chili is made from ground beef hearts.

>Do people put so many toppings on these so they can avoid tasting the mystery meat dollar store hot dogs?
A proper coney is made with a quality natural casing dog, if it doesn't snap it's not a proper coney

Michigan is all about the coneys and has a few "famous" spots, but the true secret is indeed having a natural casing dog. Being able to snap into a hot dog is one of the best meaty pleasures.

Chili Dog Thread, there are many ways to make one and many local variations through out the US, but chili and hot dogs are a winning combination.
>Coney Island hot dog
>In southeastern Michigan, a Coney Island hot dog is a European-style Frankfurter Würstel (Vienna sausage) of German origin with a natural lamb or sheep casing, topped with a beef heart-based sauce, which was developed by Macedonian and Greek immigrants in the area. It has several local variations, including Detroit style, Flint style, and Jackson style.

>Hot wiener
>In Rhode Island the hot wiener or New York System wiener is a staple of the food culture and is served at "New York System" restaurants. The traditional wiener is made with a small, thin hot dog made of veal and pork, giving it a different taste from a traditional beef hot dog, served in a steamed bun, and topped with celery salt, yellow mustard, chopped onions, and a seasoned meat sauce.

>Cheese coney
>In Greater Cincinnati, Cheese coneys or Coney Islands (without the cheese) are hot dogs in buns topped with Cincinnati chili (a Greek-inspired meat sauce), onions, mustard, and cheese.
Just to name a few

Detroit, but honestly I want to try a Chicago Dog. The things that scare me are the tomato slices and pickle spear, it seems that would ruin it but I want to see if it's good.

Chili dogs are possibly my favorite culinary innovation. Despite hot dogs being a fairly low quality foodstuff, I do quite enjoy them and a chili dog is my favorite way. I prefer a Detroit style Coney the best with chili, mustard, onions, I'm not that big on cheese on hot dogs myself. I have some favorite spots to get chili dogs but even a home made chili dog with some nuked Oscar Meyer frankenfurters and canned chili will do in a pinch.

This. American, Lafayette, Leos, National, some random one on the corner, I don't care where, but a proper "coney" is my favorite hot dog format.
