Like I said, they rely heavily on promotions with established restaurants and the people who want to try "NEW THING". I'll admit, I'm in that boat and a sucker for garbage; I've tried a few of these purely just because of curiosity. Most of them have been underwhelming and I've seen a lot of them get pulled from menus in the end. The companies probably get a core consumer base that actually enjoyed the thing, plus a few partner companies who decide the numbers worked out in the end and want to keep it as a menu item.
Hell, I tried the worst of the worst of promotional failures from Beyond Meat: the Tim Hortons burger. Nobody expected a burger from a donut shop to be any good, but this flopped massively hard. The one I had was a weird flavourless mess drenched in sauce on a stale bun. It got pulled pretty fast.
Apparently A&W and Burger King have found these products work on their menus, though McDonalds dropped their McPlant.
