Belgian. Orval is unique among the Trappist ales as it has a more sour fruity flavor. The logo, a leaping fish with a ring, is reference to an old legend where a princess walking in the woods dropped her wedding ring into a pond. She fell to her knees in distress, when a fish jumped out of the water with the ring in his mouth to return it to her. As thanks to God she had an Abby built on that spot.

how come Chimay and Rochefort are delicious but Orval tastes like old socks? I've bought it three times and each it was so bad I couldn't finish it
