There are obviously a ton of problems with his kitchen skills, from not reading the directions to downright being oblivious to his obvious mistakes (see pickles and pulled pork). He is on record as saying he thinks reading is dumb, not just in the kitchen, but overall. He might actually be a functional illiterate and not just a doofus who jumps right into things. He's only done a handful of videos where he admits wrongdoing and when he does "oh I'm just an average Joe." IDK if he just thinks his shit don't stank or what but he never seems to learn from his copious failures

When you get to the bottom of it, a huge contributor to his ineptitude is that Jack treats the kitchen as a novelty, hence the obsession with clearly shitty made for TV products. He can't improve because he doesn't make the same thing twice, he just moves on to the next disaster. It's kind of funny but a big reason why he's so bad and does retarded bullshit like adding ice water to hamburger meat is because he never cooked a decent burger in the first place. He can't fully comprehend how dumb his antics are because he doesn't know how far it deviates from the norm. The party cheese salad immediately comes to mind, as does the cayenne pepper in his eye. Go to the doctor you fat sack of shit and scrub all the feces out of your wedding ring so you don't get pickeye again

He doesn't get disappointed tho, that's part of his charm. He talks up his shit when it is so clearly a health hazard. Sometimes he admits defeat in a later episode, but at the time he will either blame the equipment/ingredients or announce success. That's what gets me every time
