Yesterday I went to this really decent izakaya place. It was awesome other than this:

>waitress asks if we want anything to drink
>we both say "hot tea"
>she nods, brings us back two mugs of clear liquid (i thought she'd bring green or oolong, but...)
>take a sip, confused, i'm pretty sure this is hot water
>don't want to be wrong, gently ask her "i'm sorry, this is very faint tasting... what kind of tea is this?"
>"oh! i'm sorry, i thought you just wanted plain tea, miscommunication!"
>brings us green tea, finally

I didn't make a fuss or anything, but man, in what world is "plain tea" hot water?
