Damn, I just had a Proust (Ratatouille, for the zoom zooms) moment, whisking me all the way back to 1989. In retrospect it was more of a "fend for yourself" moment rather than a delightful childhood remembrance, but we take what we can get on 2020 /ck/.

staying in and drinking has always been an american thing, we just don't have the same pub culture as other countries. Bars were seen as dens of sin and vice (thanks Prohibition), a place for alchoholics and addicts and women of loose morals

Ironically this tendency to drink alone or at home is one of the reasons America has a problem with Alcoholism, because people just get fucking slammed at home with no social repercussion and nobody looking out to tell them they've had enough. We just quietly drink ourselves to death at home to numb the pain of our empty lives. Fuck why do you think al/ck/ threads were so popular before they got shitcanned to /soc/?

I haven't been in Al/ck/ in a while but I've managed to cut my drinking down to only weekends (with the help of kratom)

I've managed to get a decentish but busy job so drinking during the week just isn't even feasible

I once tried Walgreens beer. It was the worst beer I ever had as well. It seriously gave me a headache from one fucking beer. I threw the rest away.
