Beans in chili is fine at home, but beans in a restaurant or competition should have no chili. If I'm going out for a meal I'd prefer you not stuff something with cheap filler, and if it is a competition it shouldn't have cheap filler in it either. People make tons of beans down here, depending on the area they make them as a starch more than potatoes. I made a large amount of ranch style pinto beans two days ago and I've been eating them with vegetables and brisket. If I made chili I'd put beans in it too, and if someone else made chili with beans in it I wouldn't think anything of it, but if a restaurant brought me chili with a ton of beans in it I'd be disappointed. Honestly I'm not even gonna order chili at a restaurant, that's an at home meal.
