>"the scientists say washing does almost nothing to get the arsenic out"
Making the rice 'safer' is the MAIN REASON why people wash their rice. They want to get rid of 'bad' stuff on the rice - even if they don't know what that bad stuff is. Saying that this doesn't work is tantamount to saying the daily practice of billions of people is a waste of time. He makes this claim because the 'the research has shown' washing rice doesn't reduce the 'bad' stuff (arsenic). He comes to this conclusion based on an obvious biased cherrypicking of research. Google for 10 minutes and you can find studies contradicting his claim. The other stuff is obvious window-dressing to reduce the impact of his -primary- argument -- that washing rice does nothing to make it safer. If we are talking about mental blocks, why is it that you are focusing on platitudes (just do what you like! it makes it a little bit less fluffy!) instead of his main point?
