I'm in my 40s in a sedentary job, the trick is to get rid of your cage. I ride to work, I rack up about 120 miles a week. Being inside a cage makes me feel physically ill. I keep my license for rentals when I'm traveling but that's it.

Right now Ti frames are shockingly cheap, I suggest you ditch the cage and buy something super nice while the getting is good. When I first got into this they were wildly expensive. A Lynsky with R8020 and a dynohub system with a set of good quality handbuilt wheels for winter and summer, plus bags and appropriate all-weather apparel (don't cheap out on this, it's a huge mistake), should these days run you $8k or so, probably less if you don't fred out on the wheelset. Back in the day (adjusting for inflation) that was the price for just the FRAME, and we didn't have all the modern niceties we have now.

I'm suggesting you go for dedicated seasonal wheels because swapping between ice tires and slicks at random is a pain in the ass, I'm telling you from experience. You'll think you won't mind, but you will. And riding on studs when you don't need to will get old fast.
