>finally start to walk towards the guy
>dude speedwalks past me like he shit himself, towards the rear of the store
>flag down another worker
>explain situation
>dejected "not again" from him
>they get manager
>explain again
>manager is visibly angry, to the point where her face went red
>gave me a $25 gift card and apologized profusely for the hassle
>never saw the guy again

I still wonder what his deal was all the time.
